Seeds & Roots

Seed are blown by the wind, eaten by animals, enclosed in fruits, or within hard nut shells. Roots reach down to gather water and nutrients, support a tree, store food, protect from erosion, and purify our water.

Aromatic seeds and roots give us spice and medicine like the ones here:

  • Black, red, pink, and green peppers have long been important to world trade and used as medicine and food

  • Juniper berries give us gin and sharply fragrant essential oils

  • Of course, there are also the highly valued spices like vanilla and chocolate
